What Sets Us Apart
Our Adjusting procedures, and why we do them
Here is a step by step explanation of what we do to better your health and what a typical visit in our office is like.
~Wobble Chair and Repetitive Cervical Traction~
There are 2 important reasons why we are doing the wobble chair and cervical traction:
Spinal discs don’t have there own blood supply so there has to be another way to pump the nutritious fluids into discs then squeeze out the wastes. While normal physical activity can create a pumping force, research indicates that the best way to create a pumping force for this fluid exchange is loading and unloading cycles of compression (pushing) and traction (pulling) of the spine. This is what the wobbles and traction do.
The second reason is to produce hysteresis in the discs.Hysteresis is a temporary loss of holding energy, (tightness), in a ligament, disc or tendon due to progressive compression, (pushing), and traction, (pulling). This will temporarily change the disc from a tissue that is resistant to motion (solid) to a tissue with limited resistance to positional changes (liquid). When the discs resistance to movement is reduced, then the joints can be repositioned before the holding energy is regained. This allows for spinal correction and must be done before the adjustment. After the wobble chair and traction we do foam exercises core exercises.
~Foam Core Exercises~
Warming up your muscles is just as important as warming up your discs.Rolling on the foam will help break up scar tissue on your muscles and will make them more pliable and rubber-like.Pliable muscles will allow your vertebrae to position correctly without pressure on your nerves. In the end, think of it as a self massage that will loosen you up for your adjustment and will help speed the healing of your subluxations.
~Adjustment~
Now that you are warmed up we can adjust you.The adjustment provides motion to the vertebrae that are not moving correctly. The adjustment moves the vertebrae to take pressure of the surrounding nerves so your body can function at a higher level. This allows your innate organizing energy that runs through your nervous system to regulate, and heal your body to the optimum potential. After the adjustment it is time to retrain the postural muscles to ensure longer lasting spinal change.
~Posture Strap and Weights~
Once you’ve completed your wobbles and cervical traction, your discs and ligaments are in a more liquid state.During this state, spinal changes can be made by using a combination of adjusting and utilizing head/shoulder/hip body weights. This weighting will cause specific postural muscles to contract while others relax, which allows for permanent spine and postural changes.
The application of head, shoulder and hip weights will reprogram your “righting” reflexes (the reflexes that control your posture). This will reposition the spine and hold it in the corrected position as your discs and ligaments regain their elastic energy (back to the solid state). After the spinal molding we do stretches to lengthen the muscles so they are not so tight to allow for better flexibility and greater range of motion.
